Proven Ingredients

Why our formula works

Four prescription actives that work in different layers of the skin — together they renew cells, even tone, strengthen the barrier, and keep irritation low.

Tretinoin 0.05%

Cell renewal

The gold-standard prescription retinoid. Speeds cell turnover from a 28-day to a 21-day cycle, smoothing texture and softening fine lines.

Tranexamic Acid 3%

Pigmentation

Inhibits the inflammatory pathway that drives melasma and post-acne marks. Pairs with Tretinoin to fade dark spots from two angles.

Niacinamide 4%

Barrier repair

Strengthens the skin barrier, calms redness, and reduces the irritation that comes with starting a retinoid. Critical for tolerance.

Panthenol 3%

Soothing humectant

Provitamin B5 — pulls moisture into the skin while calming any retinoid reactivity. Keeps skin comfortable through the adjustment period.

Skin renews itself every 28 days. Prescription Tretinoin makes those days count.

The science

How retinoids work

Tretinoin is the most studied prescription retinoid in dermatology. Three things happen, week after week of nightly use.

28 → 21d

Faster cell turnover

Tretinoin shortens the skin's renewal cycle. Old, dull cells shed faster; fresh, even-toned cells reach the surface.

↑ Collagen

Built-in firming

Tretinoin stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen. Fine lines visibly soften over 12–24 weeks.

↓ Melanin

Lighter pigmentation

Tretinoin disperses pigment clumps and pairs with Tranexamic Acid to fade dark spots and post-acne marks.

Top 3 concerns by age

Skin concerns evolve at every decade. Here's how Tone Restore Rx addresses the most common ones at each life stage.

Post-acne marks

Lingering pigmentation from breakouts. Tretinoin + Tranexamic Acid fade marks at two layers — turnover and inflammation.

First fine lines

Crow's feet and forehead lines beginning. Nightly Tretinoin slows their progression and softens what's already there.

Uneven texture

Roughness, dullness, occasional bumps. Faster cell turnover smooths the surface within 8–12 weeks.

The mechanism

Four mechanisms, one cream

Each active does one thing well. Together, they renew, even, strengthen, and soothe — in a single nightly application.

I

Renew at the cellular level

Tretinoin shortens the skin's 28-day turnover cycle, surfacing fresh, even cells faster than skin does on its own.

II

Fade pigmentation

Tranexamic Acid blocks the inflammatory melanin pathway that drives melasma and post-acne marks.

III

Strengthen the barrier

Niacinamide rebuilds ceramides and calms redness — essential for keeping retinoid irritation low.

IV

Soothe through adjustment

Panthenol pulls moisture in and calms any reactivity from Tretinoin's acceleration. Keeps skin comfortable.

Eligibility

Is Tone Restore right for you?

Tretinoin is well-tolerated by most adults — but a few situations require a conversation with your provider before starting.

Good fit if you are

  • Looking to address fine lines, uneven tone, post-acne marks, or rough texture with prescription-strength actives.
  • Comfortable with a 4–8 week adjustment period of mild dryness or peeling as skin recalibrates.
  • Willing to commit to daily SPF — non-negotiable on any retinoid.

Talk to your provider before starting if

  • !You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive — Tretinoin is contraindicated.
  • !You have severe rosacea, active eczema, or unusually sensitive/reactive skin.
  • !You've recently had chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling.
  • !You're currently using other prescription retinoids or strong exfoliating actives.

Dr. Ressalam reviews these factors during the intake. If Tone Restore isn't the right fit, your card authorization is released and you are never charged.

Application protocol

How to apply Tone Restore Rx

Tone Restore is a PM treatment. Start every other night for the first 2–4 weeks, then move to nightly. Your provider may adjust the protocol for sensitive skin.

  1. 01

    Cleanse thoroughly

Wash with a gentle, non-foaming cleanser. Pat skin completely dry — moisture dilutes the active and reduces efficacy.

  2. 02

    Apply at night, face only

Pea-sized amount across cheeks, forehead, chin. Avoid eyes, nostrils, lips, and broken skin. Wait 20 minutes after cleansing.

  3. 03

    Moisturize over top

After 10–15 minutes, layer a fragrance-free moisturizer. This minimizes Tretinoin's drying effect during the adjustment period.

  4. 04

    SPF 30+ every morning

Mandatory. Tretinoin increases photosensitivity; without SPF, results reverse and sun damage accelerates. Broad-spectrum is non-negotiable.

When to apply

Apply at night only. Tretinoin increases photosensitivity, so PM-only use protects the active and your skin.

Retinoid uglies

Mild peeling, dryness, or breakouts in weeks 2–6 are common as cell turnover speeds up. Push through; it resolves by week 8.

Patience matters

Texture and tone smooth by week 8. Fine-line softening visible at week 12. Maximum collagen rebuilding takes 24+ weeks.

Layering with actives

Avoid Vitamin C serums or chemical exfoliants on the same nights. Discuss layering with your provider.

What to expect

Your results timeline

Wk 1–4

Adjustment phase

Skin acclimates. Mild peeling, dryness, or temporary breakouts are normal as cell turnover speeds up. Push through with consistent moisturizer.

Wk 5–8

Texture smooths

Adjustment subsides. Roughness and dullness visibly reduce. Niacinamide barrier repair becomes evident.

Wk 9–12

Tone evens

Tranexamic Acid begins fading dark spots and post-acne marks. Most patients see clear before/after by week 12.

Wk 16–20

Firming begins

Collagen rebuilding visible. Fine lines around eyes and mouth soften. Skin reflects light differently.

Wk 24+

Compounding results

Maximum effect builds over time. Most patients use Tone Restore long-term for sustained anti-aging.

Timing reflects average response from clinical literature on topical Tretinoin. Individual results vary based on baseline skin condition, retinoid tolerance, and consistency.

Your questions

Frequently asked

Why are my skin getting worse before it gets better?

+

Tretinoin accelerates cell turnover, which can surface congestion in the first 2–6 weeks. This "retinoid adjustment" is normal and resolves by week 8 in most patients. Push through with consistent moisturizer.

Can I use this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

+

No. Tretinoin is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell your provider before starting if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.

Why is SPF mandatory with this treatment?

+

Tretinoin increases photosensitivity. Without daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+, sun exposure can damage freshly-renewed cells and reverse your progress. Non-negotiable on any retinoid.

How does Tone Restore differ from over-the-counter retinols?

+

OTC retinols are weaker precursors that the skin must convert before they work. Tretinoin is the active form — significantly stronger and supported by 50+ years of clinical research.

Can I layer this with my Vitamin C or chemical exfoliants?

+

Avoid layering on the same evening — they can compound irritation. Most patients use Tone Restore at night and Vitamin C in the morning. Skip exfoliants on Tretinoin nights.

How long until I see results?

+

Texture smooths by week 8. Tone evens by week 12. Fine-line softening visible at week 16. Maximum collagen-driven firming takes 24+ weeks of consistent nightly use.
